Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington to Seek Circuit Judgeship

Jonesboro, AR –  Today, District Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington officially announced his campaign for Circuit Judge in the newly created 12th Division of the Second Judicial District.  Ellington, who was first elected as Prosecuting Attorney in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014 and 2018, is currently serving his third term as prosecutor in the six county Second Judicial District which includes Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Greene, Mississippi and Poinsett Counties

Ellington pointed to his experience and history of public service as his primary motivation to seek the newly created judgeship, “I feel my proven record of public service and more than 25 years experience in the Circuit Court system will allow me to quickly adapt to the new challenges and responsibilities of a Circuit Judge.”  Ellington further pointed to his familiarity with the Second Judicial District as an important factor in his decision, “I have developed strong relationships with people from all walks of life in all six counties of the district. I am familiar with the issues facing our communities and I feel that level of connection is important in a judge. As Prosecutor, I was a founding partner of the Mental Health Court, Veterans Court and Sobriety Court programs implemented within the district in the last eight years.”

Prior to his election as Prosecuting Attorney, Scott served as a Deputy Prosecutor, beginning in 2007.  Before joining the prosecutor’s office, Scott worked in private practice for 15 years, handling a wide variety of litigation.  “In my years of legal experience, I have learned the average citizen has never darkened the doors of the circuit court – unless summoned for jury duty or if supporting a loved one going through divorce.  Most people’s main concern is that a judge be fair, honest and impartial. As a Circuit Judge, I will apply the law to the facts presented, and I will not legislate from the bench.”

Scott is a native of Brookland in Craighead County, and currently lives in Jonesboro with his wife, Tanya, who is an elementary school teacher.  They have three adult children and one grandson.

“As many people know already, I enjoy meeting and talking with folks from across the district.  I look forward to hitting the campaign trail and making my case to the voters about why I feel I am a good fit for the Circuit Court.” Ellington added.
